While Republicans claim that Democrats want to defund the police, House and Senate Democrats have secured nearly $400 million this year to fund public safety projects in their districts and states. Republicans secured around $272 million. This funding will go toward hiring and training law enforcement, upgrading police equipment and forensic technology, improving funding violence intervention and youth outreach programs, improving mental health and substance use services, and more.

Public safety funding discrepancies in swing states are stark:

  • AZ, GA, and MI Dems secured 3x as much as Rs in their states.
  • PA Dems secured 4x as much as PA Rs.
  • NV Dems secured 10x as much as NV Rs.
  • WI Dems secured 15x as much as WI Rs.

Interact with the two maps below to see which Democrats secured funding and how it’s being used to improve public safety.
