Third Way and Bipartisan Allies Urge Congress: Protect Funding for Clean Energy Innovation

The fiscal year 2024 budget process has been a wild ride—and it’s not over yet. As Congress finally begins to shape next year’s budget, backing for clean energy innovation hangs in the balance. Ongoing support for research, development, demonstration, and deployment (RDD&D) of new clean energy technologies will be critical to staying globally competitive, lowering costs, and meeting our climate goals. It must be protected.
Third Way and ClearPath have teamed up to lead a bipartisan letter to Congressional appropriators urging them to continue funding clean energy innovation programs at the US Department of Energy (DOE). This coalition of over 70 stakeholders includes companies and trade associations for a host of different clean energy technologies, NGOs from across the political spectrum, utilities, and labor. Our message to Congress is clear: if we want to keep pace with China and other countries that are going big on clean energy, reduce costs for American families, and tackle emissions, we must continue funding innovation.
