Statement from Third Way Senior Director for Climate and Energy Ryan Fitzpatrick on the Energy Permitting Reform Act of 2024
WASHINGTON—Third Way Senior Director for Climate and Energy Ryan Fitzpatrick issued the following statement in response to the release of Senator Manchin’s and Senator Barrasso’s Energy Permitting Reform Act of 2024.
“Senator Manchin’s and Senator Barrasso’s bipartisan bill is a major milestone for comprehensive permitting and siting reform, and for the success of America’s power sector. With electricity demand rising, transmission and siting reform is critical to ensuring Americans can access the low-cost, reliable, and clean energy they need, when they need it.”
“The Inflation Reduction Act provided an unprecedented opportunity to expand clean energy production. By addressing some of the greatest barriers to rapid project deployment, the Energy Permitting Reform Act would allow the US to take greater advantage of these existing incentives and our vast clean energy resource potential.”
“Most legislative efforts of this scale require compromise. But it’s clear right off the bat that the benefits this bill delivers for clean energy far outweigh the provisions for fossil fuels, making this a net-win for the climate and for American leadership in the clean economy.”
“We look forward to continuing our work with the sponsors and other stakeholders to support this legislation as it moves toward passage.”
