Third Way applauds Senate passage of bipartisan innovation bill
WASHINGTON—Third Way Executive Vice President for Policy Jim Kessler issued the following statement on Senate passage of The Chips and Science bill, also known as CHIPS+:
“Joe Biden and congressional Democrats continue to exceed expectations and accomplish what everyone says can’t be done: pass consequential bipartisan legislation.
“With the triple threats of a supply chain crisis, climate change, and economic competition with China, it’s heartening to see bipartisan cooperation to help address all three. The innovation legislation that has just passed the Senate is a huge accomplishment for bipartisanship and the American people.
“This bill will help spur new research, bolster domestic production of vital technologies, and lower the risks of more supply chain hang-ups in our economy that helped drive inflation. What’s more, through a coordinated science and innovation strategy, the legislation supports new generations of innovators that will drive American leadership in clean, secure, and affordable energy for years to come. And finally, passing this bill is a national security imperative that directly supports our military and technological competition with China.
“Congratulations to Leader Schumer for working tirelessly from inception to passage. We urge its swift passage in the House of Representatives. Let’s get another win to President Biden’s desk.”
