Third Way: “Democrats embraced a big tent, and Americans rewarded mainstream candidates”

WASHINGTON — Third Way released the following statement from Matt Bennett, Senior Vice President for Public Affairs:

“We have taken the first step in stopping Trumpism. By pulling the lever for a wide array of Democratic women, people of color, veterans, and LGBTQ candidates, voters in every region of the country have ushered in the most representative coalition of elected officials in history. Democrats embraced a big tent and Americans rewarded mainstream candidates with their votes.

“We are excited about the dynamic set of new members coming to Washington and the new generation of leaders taking over in America’s statehouses. We look forward to helping them implement bold, modern solutions and provide a powerful check on this disastrous president and his down-ballot enablers.

“It wasn’t all good news, of course. The losses in the Senate and some governor races are incredibly disappointing, and they show how formidable Trump remains in some areas of the country. But with our new power to check his worst abuses and with a new blueprint for winning, we are confident that we can replace him in 2020.”
