Higher education is supposed to serve as a ladder of upward mobility, providing students with a quality degree, a good job, and an opportunity to earn a better life. But only half of all students who enter postsecondary education go on to earn a degree, showing that the ladder for many of today’s students is rickety. It’s for this reason we need stronger federal oversight to make sure both students and taxpayers see a return on the investment they make in higher education each year.
