Jessica Travis joins the Third Way team as the Salesforce Administrator. Shehas been working on growing her Salesforce knowledge for years now, and is happy to wax poetic about the amazing things it can do. Drawn to Third Way because of its values and agenda, she aspires to be someone who helps the company work together more efficiently.
Growing up in northern Ohio, she had a front-row seat to the quickly changing political and environmental climate of the midwest and Great Lakes area. After returning to her home from college in New York, where she had earned herself an AOS of Pastry Science, the difference in the environmental side of the climate was markedly clear. Always a lover of the outdoors and wildlife, the changes she saw in just her small part of the world awoke a passion for sustainability and climate change mitigation. Speaking with her grandfather, a farmer in rural Ohio, about the unpredictable weather and the very specific needs of crops like sweet corn and soybeans only left her wanting to learn more.
The chance she needed came in the form of Starbucks. As soon as she began working for the coffee chain, she took advantage of their tuition-paid partnership with Arizona State University to earn her second degree, a BA from the School of Sustainability in International Development and Urban Design. As her thesis presentation, Jessica was able to speak to the Mayor of Wadsworth, Robin Laubaugh, as well as the rest of the city planning council about sustainable public transportation and climate hazard mitigation. After graduation, Jessica began working for the National Inventors Hall of Fame, a non-profit STEM organization. Even though the focus of her work was logistical and computer-based, she still found time, and the kindred spirits, to start the organizations first Green Team, focused on making small changes in the daily habits of its co-workers in order to create a greener workplace.
Her favorite topics to speak on are biophilic and green city design, the importance of multi-culture farming in trying to slow climate change, and anything involving a spreadsheet.
