Rebecca von dem Hagen

On a sunrise ferry back from Bald Head Island off of the coast of NC, at age 20, Rebecca realized how critical our natural resources are to a healthy planet and economy – and resolved that day to dedicate her career to protecting them from threats like climate change.

After college, Rebecca joined the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and learned the important role of government in society. She started her career in EPA's Office of Chemical Safety and Pollution Prevention and then transitioned to the Office of Air and Radiation (OAR), where she worked on domestic and international climate policy. In both roles, Rebecca found the greatest success when working closely and directly with industry to increase transparency and ensure government actions were both informed by and responsive to the reality in the field. She finished her time at EPA as Special Assistant to the Director of the Office of Atmospheric Programs within OAR.

During her time in graduate school, Rebecca focused on both corporate strategy and impact investing, consulting for Campbell's Soup Co. as well as SEI, a large asset manager. After her MBA, Rebecca became Chief of Staff at Mission Possible Partnership, a non-profit dedicated to working with companies to reduce emissions from the most carbon-intensive industries in the economy.

Today, Rebecca is following her passion for fighting climate change by tackling some of the hardest-to-abate sectors as Third Way’s Senior Policy Advisor for Industry within the Climate & Energy Program. Leveraging her years of experience with the government, private, and non-profit sectors, Rebecca advances pragmatic policies for industrial decarbonization, leading Third Way's efforts to make America’s heavy industries like steel cleaner and more competitive and to grow the market for low-carbon construction materials.

Originally from outside of Philadelphia, she currently lives in downtown DC with her husband and two cats. Rebecca has an MBA from the Duke University Fuqua School of Business and a BS in Environmental Studies from Elon University.
